Welcome to the first in a major new series for Piano Tunes. These workouts have been inspired by common problems I’ve noticed among my adult students, as they move from Clementi into music with bigger textures, multiples voicings, and more advanced phrasing, and where more dexterity is required. However, they could be useful for more advanced young pupils.
Exercises by Hanon, Czerny and the like are wonderful for improving technique, but they can be very long, and the technique they are encouraging the student to master can sometimes be crystallised into a few bars, without pages of padding. So my approach is to work on different technical challenges in short, sharp bursts, which can be repeated as necessary.
There will be no videos, but should you be struggling with a particular workout please add a comment and I will supply one.
Time to get working out!
