Grand Designs

Yesterday I had a great meeting with my web designer, who has some amazing ideas for how to improve the site. Don’t panic, it will all still work in the same way, but it will look a lot better. It will make better use of the whole screen, and posts will be separated from each other so it’s easier to see where one post ends and the next begins. There will be better syncing from here to Facebook. And there will be an email subscription opt-in. Plus so many more things to enhance your Piano Tunes experience! Can’t wait!

Friday Favourites!

Every Friday I’m reposting pieces that have been a big hit here on Piano Tunes. I know this from looking at data linked to my site, which tells me how many visits each page receives. And of course I can see how many views the Youtube videos have.

My most popular pieces have been my Christmas arrangements. But as it’s June, we’ll skip to the non-seasonal pieces.

Captain Matthew’s Adventures

I add this piece to Piano Tunes with a good deal of emotion. I’ve now fulfilled my aim, of adding a new piece every weekday for one whole year. Also, it’s my 50th birthday today. In the past few months, Piano Tunes has raised over £1400 for Cancer Research UK, thanks to the generosity of many users, friends and family. I decided to make today’s piece extra special, for a special little boy. A suite of pieces, with artwork by myself – I’ve been teaching myself to draw on my iPad with an Apple Pencil – still lots to learn!

And so it’s with this piece that I now take a break from Piano Tunes. I have so many ideas and plans for this site, and I will reveal more over the coming weeks. But there will be no new music until September. There are over 250 pieces on this site, and all of them will be available over the summer – have an explore! Remember you can search categories, to find the pieces at the right level for you or your students. And you can still donate to Cancer Research UK – any donations of £20 or more will be rewarded with a bespoke commission, which I will write straight away and publish here in September. My parting request is…please let me know what you think of Piano Tunes, and let me know what you’d like to see more of from September. This site takes up a huge part of my life, and it’s all for you, so please give me some feedback! Take care, have a wonderful summer, and check back from time to time to catch up on some exciting news.

Best wishes,

Martin

Sight Reading Grade 4 Set 2

Every day this week, a set of five mini-pieces will appear, beginning with easier pieces, working up to around Grade 4 by the end of the week. As usual there are videos – but try not to watch the video first – use it as confirmation after you’ve tried to sight read the pieces.

Note that I haven’t given any tempo indications. Just play the pieces at a speed you are comfortable with, but always try to maintain a steady beat.
