In music, a ‘ground’ is a short melodic phrase, repeated throughout a composition, often in the bass. This device was popular in baroque music, but I’ve added a few modern touches. I’ve left the dynamics up to the player – it’s fun to experiment with ‘terraced’ dynamics – alternating from loud to soft and vice versa. You could even make some of the bars sound like echoes. Have a go – there is no right and wrong!
