Up the Potemkin Steps

Grade 2

Here’s another piece for a boy in Ukraine. A famous landmark there is the Potemkin Steps at Odessa. It’s a huge flight of steps in ten stages. I imagined climbing them, and having a rest between each stage. The music climbs in a similar fashion, and as it progresses, it gets harder to climb as we run out of breath. As we get to the final stage, a sudden rush of energy gets us to the top, and we can turn around and enjoy the view!
