To make this piece easier to read, I've used long note values - which means you have to play it faster! The overall effect will be quite a lazy blues. Perfect for dragging out those last few minutes before bedtime!

Here's another piece for a boy in Ukraine. A famous landmark there is the Potemkin Steps at Odessa. It's a huge flight of steps in ten stages. I imagined climbing them, and having a rest between each stage. The music climbs in a similar fashion, and as it progresses, it gets harder to climb as we run out of breath. But at last we're at the top, and we can turn around and enjoy the view!

Try to ensure the rhythm transfers consistently from hand to hand. It's not as easy as it looks.

A couple of features make this piece easier to learn. The left hand always plays triad chords. And the top note of the chord is always one note below the right hand. This piece should sound as delicate as a butterfly!

This piece was written for a boy in Ukraine. He sent me an excellent video of himself playing another of my pieces, so I felt he deserved his own composition.

I add this piece to Piano Tunes with a good deal of emotion. I've now fulfilled my aim, of adding a new piece every weekday for one whole year. Also, it's my 50th birthday today.

Thank you to Bryan Turner for his kind donation to Cancer Research UK. I've tried to recapture 'bygone days' in a sunny, flower-filled garden for this piece.

Once the shifting positions in the left hand are mastered, this becomes a great rhythmic workout for the right hand. More confident players could experiment with legato fingering in the left hand.

A sweet little melody from Vietnam. The left hand is quite simple once the technique of building each chord up from the bottom has been mastered.

After Nick's generous donation to Cancer Research UK, I was able to work with him (he's a student) to create a piece that combines all his favourite styles.

This piece has a playful quality. Look carefully at which notes are staccato and which are legato, as it's this that gives the music its character.

I had fun with this commission, thanks to a kind donation from Amanda Foley. The playing should be light, crisp and chilled - just like a fine Rosé!

The swing rhythm makes this piece sound harder than it is. It's probably somewhere between Prep Test level and Grade 1 (ABRSM).
